5 HTP – What is this magic for the brain?

As you will have read from my previous posts, I suffer with mental health issues. I think a lot of people do and some realise it and others are oblivious.

I usually like to take the stoic approach of I am fine, I can cope with this and I certainly don’t want any of your chemicals thank you.

I realised my outlook on life was getting very black and even when a good event happened to me I was struggling to be able to enjoy it anymore. I was anxious about the future and regretting parts of my past.

I was in essence stuck. It all came to a head the other Friday when after a particularly stressful event I literally felt like I was going to burst a blood vessel. My night out with the girls started in the car, with tears and frustration and I thought I can’t carry on like this.

My friend who suffers with the same mental health issues as me suggested I try 5HTP. She said it had really helped her and she felt calm and level.

The next day I rang the supplement company who I know and trust and I had a chat with a very helpful lady at the other end of the line. The outcome, I ordered Cytoplan 5HTP Plus.

So far I am sleeping better and my thoughts are becoming more balanced. I can certainly feel as if the buzzing in the head is calming down and as the product is natural, it is even better.

What is 5HTP?

5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) is a chemical by-product of the protein building block L-tryptophan. 5-HTP is used for sleep disorders such as insomnia, depression, anxiety, and many other conditions.

5-HTP works in the brain and central nervous system by increasing the production of the chemical serotonin. Serotonin can affect sleep, appetite, temperature, sexual behaviour, and pain sensation. Since 5-HTP increases the synthesis of serotonin, it is used for several diseases where serotonin is believed to play an important role including depression, insomnia, obesity, and many other conditions.

In my experience don’t underestimate the chemicals in your brain. These days mental health issues are talked about a lot more and you don’t have to suffer in silence. Speak to someone and reach out and you will be amazed at how many people share your experiences and can help you.
